America’s Oldest Sport
Bringing new focus to America’s oldest sport.
The first sporting event ever observed by Europeans in North America was a lacrosse game. Integral to the traditions of Upstate New York’s Haudenosaunee nations, lacrosse is recreational, communal, and spiritual. It’s also an important part of Syracuse University history. Since the inception of NCAA lacrosse tournaments, SU has the most championships to its name. And it’s part of a movement that has positioned lacrosse as one of the fastest-growing sports in the world.
